Opticianry Program

Program Overview
The optical sector is a specialized healthcare field that focuses on correcting or alleviating visual impairments diagnosed by ophthalmologists. Opticians play a vital role in ensuring that prescribed optical treatments are accurately implemented for patients.

Role of an Optician
Opticians are trained professionals who:

Interpret prescriptions prepared by ophthalmologists for vision correction.
Provide optical instruments tailored to patient needs.
Measure, assemble, and adjust eyeglasses to ensure a precise fit.
Deliver customized eyewear to patients based on personal specifications.

Graduates of the Opticianry Program may also continue their education by completing a bachelor's degree through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS).

The program is designed to equip students with professional knowledge and technical skills required for the modern optical industry. In addition to fundamental courses, students take specialized subjects, including:

Practical and Laboratory Training:

Use of Optical Instruments
Technical Knowledge and Application
Applied Training I & II
Optical Laboratory

Students gain hands-on experience through:

Laboratory sessions designed for opticians, where they apply fundamental optical concepts, conduct experiments, and learn how to operate optical instruments
Internships in optical stores, allowing students to apply their vocational training in real-world settings and reinforce their theoretical knowledge.
Internship programs conducted in accordance with the Council of Higher Education’s (YÖK) guidelines.

Graduates of the Opticianry Program earn the title of Optician and can:

Establish and manage their own optical stores.
Work as responsible managers in existing opticianry businesses.
Join companies that manufacture and sell eyeglasses and other optical products.
