As part of our activities for December 3rd, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we continue to raise awareness and strengthen social sensitivity through various initiatives.
The “Campus Agenda: Awareness” event was organized by the Disabled Student Support Unit at our Şile Campus and received great interest from the university community. The event began with opening speeches by Güneş Banu Kocatepe, Head of the Student Affairs Department on behalf of the Disabled Student Support Unit, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serpil Özker, Head of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design.
Our guest speaker, Merve Kılıç, President of the Istanbul Foundation for the Education and Solidarity of the Mentally Disabled (İZEV), shared the foundation’s impactful work in the fields of art, education, and social projects that touch the lives of individuals with special needs. Participants found inspiration in İZEV’s awareness initiatives.
To mark December 3rd, symbolic purple ribbons—representing the day—were distributed to all staff to promote awareness.
Additionally, we continue to support the plastic bottle cap collection campaign led by the Turkish Spinal Cord Injury Association (TOFD). We have renewed the collection bins on our campuses and released a short informational video announcing that plastic caps of all colors can be placed in these bins. By combining recycling awareness with advocacy, we aim to work toward a better world for both the environment and society.
As Işık University, we remain committed to supporting the rights of individuals with disabilities, raising public awareness, and organizing inclusive events throughout the year.
Together, for a more inclusive world.
