The purpose of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program is to train technicians with sufficient knowledge and technical equipment, who perform the standard examinations and analyze that physicians deem necessary regarding the patient's condition, using laboratory devices and instruments at health institutions, and report the findings at the desired standards in the diagnosis, follow-up, and treatment of diseases. Providing students with laboratory quality control elements, necessary infrastructure is presented so that they can become health workers who are able to establish professional ethics and understand the principles of professional ethics, obtain results in the shortest time, produce effective solutions to the problems they encounter, develop a good command of the relevant medical documentation processes, act responsibly, communicate effectively with patients, their relatives, physicians, laboratory specialists and other healthcare professionals and are compatible with teamwork.
The growth in the health sector in our country has created a serious demand for qualified health workers. Technicians who are open to self-development and can follow professional, scientific, and technological developments will be ahead in terms of employment and promotion opportunities. The language of instruction of this program is Turkish.
Scope of the Training:In this program, during the four-semester education period, in addition to courses such as biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, laboratory methods and calculations, pathology, genetics, hematology, common courses such as terminology, biology, anatomy, disease information and deontology are offered. In addition to traditional methods, knowledge, and manual skills such as modern techniques, occupational health and safety in the laboratory, order and cleaning of the environment, preparation and testing processes, operation of tools, controls and maintenance are also taught in laboratory courses.
Students who want to study in this program should be interested in biology, physics, chemistry, and health sciences. They should know that they will be expected to take biological material (blood, sputum, urine, feces, etc.) from the patient for tests in their professional life, work with them, store, and transfer, make preparations, disinfect and sterilize. Candidates who are flexible for night and/or day shift work, can concentrate on their work for a long time, have hand-eye coordination, are not bored with routine work, and can work in a disciplined way and meticulously will be more successful in this profession.
Job Opportunities:Medical laboratory technicians work in the analysis process in public and private health institution laboratories that perform biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, parasitology, hematology, serology, neurophysiology, molecular biology and genetic tests. In general, pharmaceutical industry, food industry and private department laboratories, universities, public health institutes, research laboratories, health centers and companies that develop, produce or market medical laboratory equipment are their main workplaces.
