The mission of the Department of Mathematics is to pursue research, to build an excellent undergraduate mathematics program, and to provide all undergraduate students at Işık University with high quality of teaching that will serve as a foundation for their careers.
The Department of Mathematics offers two undergraduate programs, Mathematics and Mathematical Engineering, leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science. The Mathematics program offers students a traditional program emphasizing the elements of mathematical theory and prepares students for a mathematically based career. The Mathematical Engineering program offers students the opportunity to obtain a general knowledge of branches of mathematics indispensable for science and engineering applications and to become competent in using the computer as an aid to mathematical modeling and computation.
The two curricula have common features. They each contain free electives, complementary electives which can be chosen among a variety of courses. These give students the freedom to design a unique program. All these programs are designed to develop students' computational skills, critical thinking, and problem solving competencies.
The faculty members have interests in many areas of mathematical sciences, including Applied Mathematics, and conduct research to develop mathematical models and simulation techniques with direct relevance for real-world problems in science and engineering.
Department of Mathematics offers several double major programs and several minor programs. Double major programs are offered to the students of the following programs:
Minor programs are offered to the students of the following programs:
