Commemorative Program Held in Memory of Prof. Dr. Halil Akdeniz

A commemorative event was held at our Maslak Campus in memory of our esteemed professor, Prof. Dr. Halil Akdeniz, who served in the Visual Arts Department of our university from 2007 to 2023 and was one of the founding figures of the Visual Arts Department, Art Science Department, Art Theory and Criticism Master's Programs, and the Art Science PhD Program at the Faculty of Fine Arts.

The program began with opening speeches in the conference hall. Mehmet Serdar Sarıgül, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Bülent Kahraman, Dean of the Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture, Prof. Dr. Özgen Osman Demirbaş, and Head of the Visual Arts Department, Dr. Özüm Hatipoğlu, shared their memories and emphasized Prof. Dr. Halil Akdeniz’s contributions to the art world and education.

Following this, a panel discussion titled "Prof. Dr. Halil Akdeniz's Legacy in Art and Education" was held. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Eva Şarlak from the Visual Arts Department, the panel featured contributions from Prof. Meriç Hızal, Prof. Dr. Rıfat Şahiner, and Prof. Dr. Nedret Öztokat Kılıçeri, who reflected on Akdeniz’s influence on art and academia.

In the second part of the program, students who trained in Prof. Dr. Halil Akdeniz’s studio shared their memories and the profound impact he had on their artistic journeys.

Following the panel, the 12th installment of the "Classical Music Concerts on Campus" series was dedicated to the memory of Prof. Dr. Halil Akdeniz at Galeri Işık. The commemoration program concluded with a reception.

Throughout this heartfelt event, we honored and remembered Prof. Dr. Halil Akdeniz with love, respect, and gratitude.
