A meaningful project supported by our university, reflecting its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, has been unveiled at Şile Marina. The project, carried out in collaboration with Globelink Ünimar and Şile Municipality, repurposes waste collected from sea surface cleaning efforts into art, drawing attention to environmental awareness through the artwork named "Cycle."
The "Cycle" artwork was designed with the contributions of Lecturer Soyhan Baltacı from the Department of Industrial Design at Işık University's Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture. The piece, conceived as an abstract fish figure measuring three meters in height and one and a half meters in width, represents our university’s vision of combining upcycling and environmental consciousness with art.
"We Want to Strengthen Environmental Awareness Through Art"
Emphasizing the importance of the project, "Cycle" designer and university lecturer Soyhan Baltacı stated:
"I believe that fostering environmental awareness through art is both impactful and lasting. With the 'Cycle' project, our goal is to show that waste in our seas is not just a problem but also an opportunity to create awareness. By transforming these collected materials into art through upcycling, we aimed to highlight the delicate balance of nature. This artwork stands as a lasting symbol, reminding us all of the need to protect our seas."
"As Işık University, We Are Committed to a Sustainable Future"
Prof. Dr. Özgen Osman Demirbaş, Dean of the Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture, highlighted the university’s dedication to environmental sustainability partnerships, stating:
"Contributing artistically to eco-friendly projects is our responsibility. With this artwork, 'Cycle,' we once again express our commitment to the environment through an artistic approach. As Işık University, we will continue working towards leaving a livable environment for future generations."
The "Cycle" artwork, now exhibited at Şile Marina with contributions from Globelink Ünimar, Şile Municipality, and Işık University, marks a significant step in promoting environmental consciousness and sustainability within society.
