At the panel moderated by Dr. Ali Sercan Kesten, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, he provided recommendations and warnings on measures and preparations that can be taken at individual, organizational, and societal levels to minimize the impact of earthquakes in his presentation titled "Earthquake Preparedness and Planning."
Dr. Bora Akşar and Dr. Önder Umut shared their observations regarding structures in disaster-affected areas and provided insights on how to identify and reinforce risky buildings to prevent future large-scale destruction and loss.
İdris Kemal Kartalkaya, a representative from the Maltepe Municipality Civil Defense Unit, provided information on post-earthquake search and rescue operations. Meanwhile, Metin Günçiçek, a civil engineer from the Maltepe Municipality Directorate of Zoning and Urban Planning, delivered a detailed presentation on zoning regulations and earthquake-resistant construction in Maltepe. Additionally, Nermin Gençman, a geophysical engineer from the same department, shared insights on Maltepe’s general geological map and land suitability studies.
