Human and Social Sciences Department Concludes the Second Seminar in the Social Awareness Talks Series

12 November 2024

"(Eating) Each Other, Sociality, Ethics, and the University"

The seminar, featuring Prof. Bülent Diken, a scholar in social and cultural theory, explored key concepts such as sociality, freedom, equality, art, ethics, and the role of the university. These themes were analyzed through a philosophical and sociological perspective, using examples from film scenes, contemporary TV series, and classic paintings.

In the final part of the seminar, Prof. Diken shared his thoughts on the role of the university today. He emphasized that a university's mission extends beyond knowledge production, stating that it is a "place for those who love knowledge."

He reminded the audience that learning is a lifelong process, adding:
"A person who attends university will remain a student for life because learning is never-ending."
