Project Involving Dr. Lecturer Şehrigül Yeşil Receives Support from Istanbul University

Providing details about the project, Dr. Yeşil stated that its main objectives include the documentation of mosaics, as well as the stylistic, technical, and regional analysis of these mosaics to introduce them to the scientific community. She also emphasized that the Early Byzantine mosaics in the city could be analyzed in comparison with other settlements in the region.

"Through this approach, the role of Perge's Early Byzantine church mosaics within the region can be examined, allowing for an assessment of their connections with the Pamphylia, Lycia, and Cilicia regions," Dr. Yeşil explained.

The Southern Basilica, located in the "Lower City" of Perge, dates back to the 5th–6th centuries. This three-nave basilica, featuring a transept and galleries, is characterized by opus tessellatum mosaics covering its side naves, while the central nave is paved with marble slabs.
