About the Library

The University Library supports education, teaching, and research by meeting the information and document needs of students, academic staff, administrative staff, and alumni. Researchers from outside Işık University can also access library resources and borrow books by fulfilling the library membership requirements.

Library Collection
In addition to printed materials such as books, journals, and newspapers, the library also includes a variety of non-book materials, such as:

  • DVDs & Blu-Ray
  • CD-ROMs
  • Video & Audio Cassettes
  • Slides

Library Organization
The collection is arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification System, where books are categorized by subject. Each subject is represented by a letter code, and books can be located on shelves by following the assigned letters and numbers.

Borrowing Services

  • A valid student or staff ID card is required to borrow any library materials.
  • Reference materials, unbound journals, and government documents cannot be borrowed.
  • Borrowed items must be returned or renewed before the due date.
  • Loan periods and borrowing limits vary based on user status and material type.

  • Borrowing periods can be extended once, unless another user has requested the item.
  • Any borrowed material can be recalled after 7 days if it is needed for reserve or requested by another user.
  • Lost items must be paid for at their current market price, plus a 20 TL processing fee. If an item is overdue, an additional late fee will be charged.

Late Fees

Books:

  • 1 TL per day (Days 1-10)
  • 2 TL per day (Days 11-20)
  • 3 TL per day (Days 21-30)

Multimedia (DVD, Blu-Ray):

  • 2 TL per day

If a multimedia item is 15 days late or a book is 30 days late, it will be considered lost, and the user will be charged:

  • The item’s current market value
  • A 20 TL processing fee
  • The accumulated late fee
     

Reserve Collection

  • Materials in the Reserve Section are available for short-term borrowing to support coursework.
  • These materials are loaned for 3 hours, or overnight from 16:00 until 09:30 the next day.
  • Renewals are allowed once, unless another user has requested the item.
  • Late returns will be charged 1 TL per hour.

Document Supply Service
The library procures books and articles that are not available in its collection through partnerships with domestic and international libraries, including the British Library Document Supply Center.

Library Rules

  • Do not re-shelve books after use; leave them on tables for library staff to organize.
  • Report lost student ID cards immediately.
  • Keep mobile phones silent or switched off.
  • No food or drinks are allowed inside the library.
  • Maintain silence and avoid disturbing others.
