Online Education Infrastructure Support Department

eduroam is an abbreviation for Education Roaming.

eduroam is designed to enable users from eduroam member institutions to seamlessly access network services at other educational institutions. It operates through a RADIUS-based infrastructure and utilizes 802.1x security standards to ensure secure and reliable connectivity.

Users from eduroam member institutions can log into the network at any other eduroam-affiliated institution using the same username and password they use at their home institution.

How eduroam Works

When a user connects to an eduroam network at a guest institution, the authentication request is forwarded by the guest institution's authorization server to the user's home institution’s authentication server. This process verifies whether the user is authorized.

To ensure security, all authentication requests are encrypted and transmitted through a secure tunnel between the servers. This encryption prevents the username and password from being visible to any system except the user’s home authentication server.

Thus, all users need to do is connect to the eduroam wireless network at the guest institution in the same way they would at their home institution.
