What is Eduroam?

Eduroam is an abbreviation for Education Roaming.

Eduroam enables users from eduroam member institutions to seamlessly access Wi-Fi networks at other educational institutions using a secure, RADIUS-based infrastructure and 802.1x security standards.

Users can connect to the eduroam network at any participating institution using the same username and password they use at their home institution.

How Does Eduroam Work?

When a user connects to an eduroam network at a guest institution, the guest institution’s authentication server forwards the request to the user’s home institution’s authentication server to verify authorization.

All authentication requests are transmitted through an encrypted tunnel, ensuring that username and password credentials remain secure and are only visible to the user’s home authentication server.

Thus, all users need to do is connect to the eduroam wireless network at the guest institution in the same way they would at their home institution.
