The Political Science Program at Işık University was established in 2007 as part of the Department of International Relations. Political Science examines basic concepts such as power, authority, legitimacy; ideas such as equality, freedom, justice, democracy and institutions such as the state, government and political parties. Courses in the Political Science program at Işık University focus on five main areas. These are comparative politics, political theory, Turkish political life, public administration and international relations. In the first two years, students who take courses in the joint program with the International Relations Program can specialize by taking courses such as gender, human rights and political sociology in addition to the compulsory courses starting from the third year. As in other departments of Işık University, departmental courses in the Political Science program are less than half of the total number of courses. Thus, the program aims to provide students with interdisciplinary knowledge.
Students of the program also have the opportunity to spend a semester of their education in these universities thanks to bilateral exchange agreements signed with many European universities. The teaching staff of the program consists of faculty members who have completed their doctorates and post-doctoral studies at reputable universities. In addition, thanks to the agreements with European universities, guest academics also contribute to education. There is a Double Major Program with Economics, Business Administration and Psychology programs. Graduates of this program have the opportunity to pursue careers in the public and private sectors as well as in non-governmental organizations, think tanks and international organizations.
