Master’s Program in International Relations (Thesis/Non-Thesis)

Program Overview

The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive academic education in International Relations.

Major events in the past two centuries—two world wars, the bipolar Cold War experience, economic crises, the 9/11 attacks and other terrorist incidents, the Arab uprisings, regional and proxy wars, global climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic—have highlighted the interplay between global and nation-state processes and the political and societal dynamics that shift between these two axes.

Despite globalization theories and transnational perspectives, these developments have demonstrated the resilience and permanence of nation-states. As a result, International Relations continues to be analyzed at multiple levels:

  • Global and systemic interactions
  • Nation-state level decision-making
  • Local institutions and individual motivations of political leaders

Our International Relations Master’s Program is designed to help students:

  • Develop a strong foundation in the field
  • Adopt an interdisciplinary, critical, and analytical approach

Graduates of Işık University’s International Relations Master’s Program can pursue careers in:

  • Bureaucracy & Diplomacy
  • Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
  • Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs)
  • Multinational Corporations (MNCs)
