FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT DOUBLE MAJOR PROGRAMS 

 

A double major is a program that allows high-achieving students enrolled in an associate or bachelor's degree program to take and successfully complete the courses of a second program with a similar curriculum, leading to two diplomas upon graduation.

  • At the time of application, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.72/4.00 in their primary degree program.
  • Students must be ranked in the top 20% of their cohort based on academic performance.
  • Students must have successfully completed all required courses in their major by the semester in which they apply.
  • For programs that require a talent exam, students must also pass the exam to be admitted.

  • Bachelor’s Degree Students: 
           ◦ Earliest application: Beginning of the third semester
           ◦ Latest application: Beginning of the fifth semester
  • Associate Degree Students: 
           ◦ Earliest application: Beginning of the second semester
           ◦ Latest application: Beginning of the third semester

  • No, students can only enroll in one double major program at a time.
  • However, students can simultaneously enroll in a double major program and a minor program.

  • To graduate from the double major program, students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.72/4.00.
  • A student's GPA may drop to 2.50 once, but if it falls below 2.50 a second time, they will be dismissed from the program.
  • If a student does not take courses from the double major program for two consecutive semesters, their enrollment will be canceled.

Yes, if the student meets the internal transfer requirements for their second major, they can transfer to that program as their primary degree.

No, grades from the second major do not affect the primary major's GPA.

  • Yes, students must first pass their primary major courses.
  • A double major diploma is only awarded if the student graduates from their primary major.
     

Yes, but students must meet the general requirements and also pass the talent exam for admission.

  • Courses completed in the second major that are considered equivalent to courses in the primary major will be listed on the transcript.
  • If a student drops out of the second major, the courses they completed may count as elective or required courses in their primary major with faculty approval.
  • Courses that are not accepted as equivalents will still be listed in the transcript and diploma supplement but will not affect the primary GPA.

A minor program allows high-achieving students enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program to take a limited number of courses in a related field, earning a certificate upon completion.

General Requirements for Enrolling in a Minor Program

  • Students must have successfully completed all credit-bearing courses in their major up to the semester of application.
  • At the time of application, the student’s cumulative GPA must be at least 2.50/4.00.

  • Earliest application: Beginning of the third semester
  • Latest application: Beginning of the sixth semester

  • Yes, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.29/4.00 in their major to continue the minor program.
  • If a student’s GPA falls below this requirement, their enrollment in the minor program will be terminated.
  • Successfully completed minor program courses that are not counted in the primary major will still appear on the transcript and diploma supplement, but will not affect the GPA.

Students interested in a minor program should submit their applications to the faculty secretariats within the dates specified in the Academic Calendar published on the university’s website.

Failing or succeeding in the minor program does not affect graduation from the primary major.

  • Students can voluntarily withdraw from the minor program at any semester.
  • Once withdrawn, a student cannot re-enroll in the same minor program.
  • If a student does not take courses in the minor program for two consecutive semesters, they will be dismissed.
  • Successfully completed courses from the minor program may count as elective or required courses in the primary major with faculty approval.
